Friday Week 10
It's been another busy, exciting week for room 10 children.
We have been engaging in science, conducting a range of experiments and then thinking about the science behind it. The "what happened and why."
Brooke Woollett came in on Tuesday with an digital microscope and showed the children what their 'treasures' looked like when enlarged. They were fascinated at the patterns that were clearly shown. Each child has also been given a photograph of themselves next to the screen where their treasure was. Thank you very much Brooke . The kids loved it. Some great writing and discussion came from this activity.
The Swirly Milk made interesting patterns. These were re-created using crayons. Many of them are displayed on the wall in the classroom.
There were a lot of predictions about what might happen and why when we tried out the "Sucking Up Water" experiment involving a bowl of coloured water, a candle and various sizes and shapes of jars. After we had finished, the children told me what we had done, step by step. Today they worked in pairs to put re-create the experiment instructions in the correct sequence.
There was a lot of interesting discussion about the placement of each step. They worked very well together. These will also be displayed so come and have a look and discuss them with your child.
The Class Blog has begun, as you can see. It will help keep you up to date with what is happening in Room 10 and around the school
.
Next week we will be involved in Shared Reading activities so there will only be Independent books going home. If you do have any other books that belong at school (any reading book with a G on it rather than an I) can you please return them as we are wanting to have everything ready for next term.
Next term is production term. I need a lot of pairs of stockings, tights and or pantyhose to make into 'tails.' If you have any I would really appreciate them, black or brown tones please.
Have a great week.
Thanks for having me. If anyone would like a digital copy of their photograph please email me - brooke@inphotography.co.nz
